Bring a whole new dimension of lighting to your pinball machine with our Customizable Complete Convolux Kit. Thanks to our color configurator, you can now create a custom kit tailored to your preferences and the visual theme of your machine.
No more having to choose just one color for the entire playfield! You can now customize the different pieces of your kit and create a unique combination. Each area can feature a different color, depending on the options available in the configurator.
Do you prefer a subtle, harmonious appearance? Or are you dreaming of a multicolored playfield that would make Las Vegas look like a tiny nightlight? Either way, the choice is yours!
New: Create Your Own Custom Convolux Kit
At Pinball Custom, we have developed a color configurator that allows you to customize your kit directly from the product page.
You no longer have to settle for a predefined color combination. You can now select the colors of the different kit components and create an arrangement that perfectly suits your pinball machine.
How Does the Configurator Work?
- Select your colors: choose the shades you want for the different pieces available in the configurator.
- Create your combination: mix and match colors according to your theme, personal preferences or the lighting already installed on your playfield.
- Review your choices: take a moment to check the selected colors for each component.
- Add your kit to the cart: your selections are included with your order so we can prepare your personalized configuration.
You can create a uniform color scheme, experiment with contrasts or combine several shades to highlight different areas of the playfield.
And if you spend twenty minutes trying to decide between two colors, don’t worry: we know the feeling. That’s usually how the best customizations begin.
What Is a Convolux for Pinball?
Convolux are translucent decorative elements installed underneath the original playfield plastics. Their purpose is to capture and diffuse the light already present in the pinball machine, enhancing its overall appearance.
Thanks to their translucent material, they create colorful lighting effects and add greater depth to different areas of the playfield.
Convolux also allow you to customize your machine without replacing its original decorations. You preserve the pinball machine’s visual identity while transforming its lighting atmosphere.
The final result naturally depends on the selected colors, the existing lighting and the playfield configuration.
A Complete Kit Designed for Your Pinball Model
Each Complete Convolux Kit includes a set of pieces designed to fit the designated locations on the selected pinball model.
Depending on the machine’s configuration, the kit may enhance several areas:
- Slingshots: create colorful lighting effects beneath the plastics located above the slingshot rubbers.
- Inlanes: highlight the lanes that guide the ball back toward the flippers.
- Outlanes: add colorful lighting accents to the outer lanes of the playfield.
- Ramp areas: enhance certain decorative locations depending on the model.
- Other plastics: complete the customization of areas specific to your pinball machine.
The number and shape of the pieces vary depending on the pinball model. The configurator allows you to choose the colors of the components available for the corresponding kit.
This means you can customize your machine while retaining pieces specifically shaped to fit its configuration.
Almost Endless Color Combinations
The main advantage of our configurator is the freedom it offers when customizing your machine.
You can choose a harmonious combination that complements your pinball machine’s original colors. However, nothing prevents you from creating a more contrasting design to highlight certain areas.
For example, you can combine several complementary colors, alternate shades between the left and right sides or choose one dominant color with a few colorful accents.
In this way, your custom Convolux kit becomes a genuine part of your pinball customization project.
Keep in mind, however, that Convolux diffuse existing light. The final appearance therefore also depends on the LEDs, their brightness and their color. A colored Convolux does not turn white lighting into a programmable RGB system on its own.
Customization Without Permanent Modifications
Convolux are positioned beneath the original playfield plastics and use their existing mounting points.
There is no need to drill into the playfield or modify its structure. You also retain your machine’s original components.
This solution enhances the appearance of your pinball machine while allowing you to return it to its original configuration if desired.
However, depending on the playfield design, accessing certain plastics may require considerable disassembly. You may need to temporarily remove ramps, bumpers or various accessories.
And most importantly, you don’t need a degree in nightclub lighting engineering to enjoy the result. A little patience and a fully charged phone, however, can prove extremely useful!
Installing Your Convolux Kit – Take Your Time and Photograph Every Step!
Installing a Convolux Kit for Pinball depends on your machine’s configuration. While some pieces are very easy to install, others require more extensive playfield disassembly.
Depending on the model and installation locations, you may need to remove several components to access the original plastics: ramps, bumpers, accessories, decorations or other playfield components.
Our most important advice: take several photographs at every stage of disassembly! Photograph the components before removing them, their positions, screws, spacers and cable routing. These pictures will serve as references during reassembly and help you avoid unnecessary confusion.
And believe us, discovering one mysterious leftover screw after three hours of disassembly can quickly turn an enjoyable customization session into a full-blown detective investigation.
Step 1 – Prepare Your Pinball Machine
- Completely switch off and unplug your pinball machine before beginning any work.
- Open the coin door, then remove the lockdown bar.
- Carefully slide out the playfield glass and place it somewhere safe.
- Identify the different areas where you want to install the Convolux pieces.
- Prepare a clean workspace to organize the removed components.
- Take several overview photographs of the playfield before starting. These will help you remember the original arrangement of the components.
Step 2 – Photograph and Remove the Necessary Components
- Start with one area of the playfield and work methodically.
- Photograph the entire assembly before removing the first component.
- Identify the screws, spacers, supports and any cables.
- Take several close-up photographs to record their exact positions.
- Carefully unscrew the components preventing access to the original plastic.
- Depending on your pinball machine, you may need to remove certain ramps, bumper components, decorations or accessories.
- Photograph every new stage of disassembly, particularly when several components overlap.
- Organize screws and spacers by area in small labeled containers or bags.
- Once access is clear, carefully remove the original plastic.
Tip: Don’t rely on a single overview photograph. Take pictures from several angles, especially of hidden fasteners, spacers of different heights and cable routing.
The more photographs you take, the easier reassembly will be. Your phone will quickly become your best technical assistant, and for once, it won’t just be used to photograph your latest high score.
Step 3 – Install Your Custom Convolux Pieces
- Identify the Convolux piece corresponding to the disassembled area.
- Check that its color matches your selection in the configurator.
- Position the Convolux underneath the original plastic.
- Carefully align the cutouts and mounting holes.
- Reinstall the spacers and necessary components in their original positions.
- Place the original plastic back over the Convolux.
- Gradually tighten the screws without forcing them.
- Check that the entire assembly remains properly aligned and stable.
Important: Adding a Convolux may slightly increase the thickness of the assembly. Make sure the screws still have sufficient thread engagement and that no component is subjected to excessive pressure.
Step 4 – Reinstall Ramps, Bumpers and Accessories
- Refer to the photographs taken during disassembly.
- Reinstall the different components in the reverse order of removal.
- Return ramps, supports, decorations and accessories to their original positions.
- Respect the original screw positions and spacer heights.
- Reconnect any disconnected connectors in their original positions.
- Check cable routing to ensure no wires touch moving mechanisms.
- Inspect each area as you work before moving on to the next.
- Regularly compare your reassembly with your photographs.
Don’t try to reassemble everything from memory. Even experienced pinball enthusiasts can hesitate when faced with several almost identical spacers.
Thanks to your photographs, you can accurately restore the original playfield configuration and reduce the risk of mistakes.
Step 5 – Check the Installation and Lighting Effects
- Check that all plastics, ramps and accessories are securely attached.
- Make sure no Convolux interferes with ball trajectories or moving mechanisms.
- Inspect any cables and connectors that were handled during installation.
- Check that no screws or spacers have been left behind on the playfield.
- Reinstall the glass and then the lockdown bar.
- Switch your pinball machine back on and check that the affected components operate normally.
- Finally, admire the colorful lighting effects of your new custom combination!
Our Tips Before Getting Started
- Photograph every step: take several pictures before and after removing components.
- Work area by area: avoid dismantling the entire playfield at once unless necessary.
- Organize your screws: use labeled bags or containers.
- Pay attention to spacers: their height and position can be essential to the pinball machine’s proper operation.
- Never force anything: if a component resists removal, check whether any fasteners are still attached.
- Allow enough time: some models require longer and more technical disassembly.
- If in doubt: consult your pinball machine’s technical documentation or seek help from someone experienced.
Remember: Some Convolux kits can be installed quickly, while others require removing several playfield components. Take your time, photograph every step and carefully preserve the original parts.
The result is worth the effort: a playfield customized with your own colors, enhanced light diffusion and, hopefully, no mysterious leftover screws at the end. If that’s the case, we consider the operation a great success!
