Hand-Painted Makeover – Jaws Buoy: 3D Water, Rust Effects and Realistic Finish

Transform the original buoy decoration on your Jaws pinball machine with our handcrafted customization service. We rework your existing parts to give them a more realistic appearance through sculpted 3D water effects, weathered paintwork with rust details and the addition of a real rope around the buoy.

Important: This is a customization service, not the sale of a new buoy. After placing your order, you must send us your original buoy and the plastic piece representing the surrounding water. We will then carry out the modifications in our workshop before returning your own transformed parts to you.

And in the world of Jaws, a perfectly brand-new buoy would almost seem suspicious. After a few seasons off the coast of Amity Island, it certainly deserves a few rust marks and a generous dose of sea spray!

A Complete Makeover of Your Original Jaws Parts

The Jaws pinball machine by Stern immerses players in the atmosphere of Steven Spielberg’s famous movie. Between the waters of Amity Island, the boats and the threat of the great white shark, every detail contributes to the experience.

Our makeover focuses on two elements already present on your machine: the yellow buoy and the blue plastic piece representing the water surrounding it.

We preserve their original design. However, we rework their surfaces to create a more detailed decoration with additional textures, weathering effects and greater depth.

The result resembles a genuine maritime buoy exposed to salt, sunlight and harsh weather conditions.

A Sculpted 3D Water Effect Applied Directly to the Existing Plastic

The first transformation concerns the blue plastic piece representing the water. We add sculpted relief directly onto this existing part to recreate ripples and wave movements around the buoy.

We then work with different shades of blue, detailed shading and lighter reflections to highlight the newly sculpted shapes.

Thanks to this technique, the water gains depth and appears more dynamic. Furthermore, the sculpted details naturally catch the playfield lighting, enhancing the overall visual effect.

A Repainted Buoy with Weathering and Rust Effects

The original yellow buoy also receives a complete handcrafted paint makeover. We preserve its characteristic color while adding details that recreate the wear and tear of old maritime equipment.

This transformation includes several effects:

  • Weathered paintwork: Color variations and worn areas that give the buoy more character.
  • Rust effects: Orange-brown details applied around sculpted features and exposed areas.
  • Scratches: Small details that recreate the appearance of paint damaged over the years.
  • Shading: Contrasts that emphasize the shapes and enhance realism.

Finally, we add a real rope around the buoy. This detail completes the decoration and recalls the ropes commonly used on nautical equipment.

At this point, your buoy looks as though it has survived a few rough encounters with the waves around Amity Island. As for the sharks, we’d rather not ask any questions.

How Does Our Customization Service Work?

Unlike a traditional pinball mod, this service requires you to send us the original parts from your machine. Here’s how the process works:

Step 1 – Order the Makeover

Add the Hand-Painted Makeover – Jaws Buoy service to your cart and complete your order on Pinball Custom.

The price covers the customization work performed on your parts: sculpted 3D water effects, handcrafted painting, weathering and rust details, and the addition of the rope.

Step 2 – Remove the Original Parts

  1. Completely switch off your pinball machine and unplug it from the power supply.
  2. Remove the lockdown bar and then the playfield glass.
  3. Take several photographs of the buoy, the blue plastic piece and their mounting points before disassembly.
  4. Identify the screws, brackets and any spacers.
  5. Carefully remove the necessary components to access both parts.
  6. Remove the buoy and its plastic water decoration.
  7. Keep all screws and other accessories from your machine in a safe place.

Tip: Photograph every stage of disassembly. These pictures will help you identify the correct position of each component during reassembly.

Step 3 – Ship Your Parts to Our Workshop

After removing the parts, carefully package both elements to protect them during transportation.

  1. Wrap the buoy and the plastic water decoration separately.
  2. Use bubble wrap or another suitable protective material.
  3. Place the parts inside a sufficiently sturdy cardboard box.
  4. Include your name and order number inside the package.
  5. Ship your package to our Pinball Custom workshop.

You are responsible for the shipping costs of sending your original parts to our workshop. We recommend using a tracked shipping service so you can monitor the delivery.

Step 4 – Customization in Our Workshop

Once we receive your parts, we begin the handcrafted makeover. First, we prepare the surfaces and add sculpted 3D relief to the plastic piece representing the water.

Next, we work on the paint shades, rust effects and weathering marks on the buoy. Finally, we add the rope to complete the transformation.

Each stage requires careful attention to detail. The production time therefore depends on the preparation, painting and drying time required for the different finishes.

Step 5 – Return Shipping and Reinstallation

Once the makeover is complete, we carefully package your customized parts and ship them back to the address provided with your order.

Upon receipt, reinstall the components in their original positions using the photographs taken during disassembly.

Also check that the newly sculpted details do not interfere with any mechanisms, ramps or ball trajectories before reinstalling the playfield glass.
